Retired Truck Driver Wins $1 Million Playing Mega Millions

Randy Brown

Drawing Date: 2/7/2014

February 11, 2014 - West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave introduced the state’s newest millionaire at a press conference in Charleston on Tuesday. Randy Brown, a retired truck driver and mechanic from Man, claimed his $1 million prize for matching five numbers from the Friday, February 7, Mega Millions drawing.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Brown said. “I didn’t find out until Saturday when I went to the store to check my ticket and I found out as the clerk did. It is unbelievable.”

Brown purchased his lucky ticket at the C and L Super Serve in Mallory.

Although Mr. Brown took home a large cash prize, unfortunately he did not play the Megaplier for an extra $1.  Had he purchased the multiplier option, his prize would have been $3 Million, because the Megaplier number on Friday was 3.

This was a very lucky weekend for West Virginia. For the first time in Lottery history, we had $1 million winning tickets sold on back-to-back days. Today’s $1 Million Mega Millions prize claim was won on Friday night and was followed with a $1 million Powerball Match 5 win on Saturday (sold in Beckley).

Brown is the 63rd person to win or share a prize of $1 million or more in the Lottery’s history.
