Workers at Holbrook Company Share $1 Million Prize
Drawing Date: 11/19/2013
November 20, 2013 - This holiday season will be a little bit brighter for 41 co-workers at a Holbrook company after they won a $1 million prize for matching the first five numbers selected in the November 19th Mega Millions drawing.
Since 2009 employees at The Newcan Company, a metal fabricating firm, pool their funds to purchase tickets for the multi-state draw game whenever the jackpot reaches $100 million.
Richard Gibbons of Scituate, who bought a total of 177 tickets for the group during his lunch break, claimed the prize on behalf of his co-workers. The group will split the game's $1 million second prize based on the dollar amount each pitched in to the pool. Depending on how much they contributed, some will take home nearly $20,000 after taxes. Those who bet $1 will receive close to $4,000.
Gibbon's played the group's Mega Millions quik pic tickets at Fast Lane Convenience located at 230 Union Street in Holbrook. The store received a $10,000 commission for selling the $1 million winning ticket.
