Quick Pick ticket is just the right medicine for Glendale Heights man
Drawing Date: 11/26/2013
January 21, 2014 - Enrique Cruz was picking up a medical prescription at Meijer when he decided, on a whim, to play Mega Millions. “I just happened to think of it and I bought five Quick Picks. I never expected to win a million dollars!” A few days later while at a gas station Cruz checked the ticket and discovered he had matched the first five numbers – 27 - 44 - 59 - 74 – 75- (03) - in the Tuesday November 26 Mega Millions drawing to win $1,000,000.
Cruz, originally from the Philippines, has lived in Glendale Heights, Ill., for 32 years. He is married with two daughters and two grandsons. “I didn’t tell anybody that I won until we were all together during the holidays, and then I surprised my family with the news.” Plans for the windfall include a family trip to Walt Disney World in Florida and investing.
The winning ticket was purchased at Meijer, 130 South Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
