The Luck of the Irish Quickly Brings Another Jackpot Win

RELEASE DATE: 3/18/2026

A lucky ticket-holder in Ohio is seeing the green after the Mega Millions® jackpot was won on St. Patrick’s Day! It’s the very first time the jackpot has been won on the day of Irish celebration, and the first time since August 2023 that the prize has been won on such a short turnaround. The jackpot is worth $60 million ($27.1 million cash) after it was just hit in Illinois last week. The winning numbers in the March 17 drawing were the white balls 4, 11, 18, 38 and 50, plus the gold Mega Ball 24.

Ohio was one of the founding members of Mega Millions in 2002, and has won or shared in 22 jackpot wins over the years.

In the March 17 drawing, there were a total of 179,540 winning tickets at all prize levels, plus the single jackpot-winning ticket. Four tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game’s third-tier prize: one at $20,000 (Ohio), two at $30,000 (California and New York), and one at $40,000 (Arizona). Find complete drawing results here.

Note: Prize amounts in California will vary, as they are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis.

A highlight of this short two-drawing run was the game’s very first $10 million second-tier prize, won in Florida on March 13. This prize level was one of the features of the game introduced when the $5 price point was launched last April. Also in the March 13 drawing was a $2 million winning ticket in Pennsylvania

In the two drawings in this jackpot run, there were 377,536 winning tickets sold, plus the jackpot-winning ticket. In addition to those two multi-million second-tier prizes, there were 12 third-tier prizes ranging from $20,000 to $100,000, won in nine states across the county: Arizona, California, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Tennessee.

In total, players won almost $19.9 million in prizes over the two drawings, not including the jackpot.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, March 20, resets to its starting value of $50 million ($22.6 million cash).

About Mega Millions

Mega Millions is the only lottery game that has awarded seven jackpots exceeding $1 billion to individual ticket-holders in seven different jurisdictions across the country: Florida, South Carolina, New Jersey, Maine, Illinois, Michigan and California. The game’s record jackpot is a $1.602 billion prize won in Florida on August 8, 2023.

Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $5 each and include a randomly assigned multiplier, multiplying the base prize levels by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated good causes and retailer commissions.

Drawings are conducted at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. The overall odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23; the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
