Mega Millions® Jackpot Déjà Vu

RELEASE DATE: 4/19/2023
UPDATED

Almost exactly three months ago, the Mega Millions® jackpot was won at its current base level of $20 million in the drawing immediately after a big win. Remarkably, it has happened again! And this time, both jackpots were won in New York. A single ticket sold in that state matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 7, 9, 15, 19 and 25, plus the gold Mega Ball 4, to win the prize of $20 million ($10.5 million cash). The jackpot had just been won in New York last Friday, April 14, at a final value of $483 million.

Although several states have won two straight Mega Millions jackpots in the past (most recently Massachusetts on January 24 and 31), this is the first time in the game’s history that jackpots have been won in the same state in consecutive drawings.

It has been a very busy – and very unusual – jackpot year so far! Six jackpots have been won already, a number far more typical of an entire year. A New York winner also took home a $20 million prize in the January 17 drawing; that was right after a whopping $1.348 billion was won in Maine on January 13. See the complete Mega Millions jackpot history.

The winning numbers drawn Tuesday night were favorable all around. Four tickets matched the five white balls to win the game’s big second-tier prize; they were sold in California, Iowa, Maryland and Ohio. And for matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, 27 tickets across the country have a third-tier win. Seven of those are worth $20,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier (available in most states with an extra $1 purchase), which was 2X on Tuesday night; the other 20 win the standard $10,000 prize.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, April 21, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($10.5 million cash).
