Mega Millions® Ticket Sold in San Jose Hits Mega Jackpot!

RELEASE DATE: 10/15/2022

SACRAMENTO – One very lucky California Lottery player has hundreds of millions of reasons to be flashing a mega smile this weekend! Someone in San Jose bought one of two jackpot-winning Mega Millions® tickets for Friday night’s draw. The other ticket was sold in Florida, so now both players will split the estimated $494-million jackpot, winning about $247 million each.

The winning numbers are: 41-22-26-9-44 and Mega number 19. The California ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on Kooser Road near Meridian Avenue. That store will get a $1 million bonus because of this big win.

The Lottery will not know who the winner is until they come forward to claim their prize; they have one year to do so, otherwise the prize expires. If that happens, California public schools get the cash.

The next Mega Millions draw happens Tuesday, and the jackpot rolls back to its starting point of $20 million. Tickets are $2 each, and players can buy them at more than 23,000 places across California.

The California Lottery’s mission is to provide supplemental funding to California public schools, including kindergarten and grades 1-12, community colleges, the California State University, the University of California, and other California public educational entities. The funds the Lottery transferred to public education totaled more than $1.88 billion for fiscal year 2020-21, which amounted to a modest percentage of education’s overall budget. However, this funding is largely discretionary, meaning schools can use this for important, yet unfunded instructional programs they would otherwise not afford. During the same period, the Lottery generated almost $8.4 billion in sales, more than 95% of which went back to the community in the form of prize payments, retailer commissions and bonuses, and contributions to education. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly. Problem gambling resources are available to anyone at 1-800-GAMBLER.
